Painathlon grant 2009 Print
Painathlon 2009 has been a successful exercise again and our final total was $5650 towards Variety WA.

Last friday, just 7 weeks out from the event, I was lucky enough to meet our 'Active'-grant recipient for this year Taishar.

Taishar is 11 years old and was born with a serious spinal deformity.  She now has limited use of her legs and all your hard work and fundraising went towards a fantastic custom ordered bike from the US which she can pedal with her hands.  It is a serious speed machine complete with gears and Taishar was happy to give us a demo.  Taishar's mother Kay told me that before her paraplegia she was a very outdoorsy kid but became very much house-bound.  Since the arrival of the bike, she can cruise the neighbourhood with her friends again and loves it.  I told Taishar all about the Painathlon and also presented her with a cap (which went straight on!) and shirt.

Taishar and Kay want to send a big thankyou to all the Painathlon participants who helped make this possible.

We'll keep you all posted for news of Painathlon 2010 when details are decided.
