(8) Quadcruncher racksHi Painathletes,

This time next week you'll have a big day of Painathlon behind you and will hopefully have made it to our recovery event for a well deserved rub-down and be feeling better for it!

However, you're not there yet so pay attention to the info below!

Final familiariser

Thanks to Marek and all those who attended the final familiariser today.  We had absolutely stellar weather (which we hope holds til next weekend) and even with a relaxed pace were finished at the Bridges by 10.15am with full reps.  I haven't heard how the Jacobs reps went subsequently but I assume steadily!

2 to 3 route hint

Although the straigthforward suggested route will remain unchanged there is 0.5km distance to be gained by leaving Challenge (2) along Oceanic Drive, turning Right onto Alderbury St cutting through to Brookdale St and then Left onto Underwood.

Timing Chips (* IMPORTANT *)

After a meeting today with Orienteering WA we're pleased to say that ALL competitors will be trialling the new Sport Ident timing system as they have enough chips for every entrant.

What this means is that at race rego on the morning you will receive, along with your racecard, a plastic coated chip which, strapped to your finger, will store all your time splits for the day.  At both the start and completion of every challenge (except the mass start) you will insert the end of the chip into a control box (held by a marshall) which quickly beeps/flashes to confirm.  At all challenges except the first there will be 2 controls boxes (one 'IN', one 'OUT').  At Jacobs Ladder once you've completed your 10th lap the final 'FINISH' control box will be at the finish line.

I must emphasize now that you must hand in your chip immediately on finishing.   Any lost chips will result in a $100 invoice to the competitor so whatever you do, don't lose them!!  Besides a wide elastic finger strap there is a small hole on the chip through which elastic string can be threaded and attached to the wrist.

At mondays briefing I will have a chip and control box to demonstrate.
The great thing about this is we will have accurate splits for all challenges plus overall time, something we haven't been able to offer so far in the event.  If the trial is successful we'll definitely look at using the system again so be good guinea pigs!

Pre-race briefing

  • Monday August 3rd, 7pm at Notre Dame Uni, Fremantle (ND 46/209), 90 mins max
  • Venue located in the building on corner of Phillimore and Henry St, Fremantle
  • Racetops available to fully paid/entered competitors
  • Full run-through/Q&A of Challenges with up to the minute course info

Can you keep your race-top?

You certainly can hang on to your race-top (we've designed them 6 inches longer than last years bib especially so they will be usefully wearable post event) but the asking price will be $15.  This is not to discourage anyone buying them (we'd like you all to!), rather to cover their increased cost.

Fundraising shirts

The Sportsfever shirts are now at the screen printer (we're not embroidering for a change) and below you can see this years back design.  They are extremely nice performance T's and will be a great score for those who get one.

Painathlon Brooks Caps

I have had enough interest for the racing caps so they are also being made up at this minute.
They will be available on the day at race rego either to buy on the spot ($30), or collect if already paid for.
Thanks to 'Pure Blonde Naked' and 'Sportsfever' for covering the cost of the caps so we can sell them as a pure fundraiser
for Variety.

Awards

All presentations will be made at the recovery party once we have the compiled results and best splits from the challenges.

To remind you the Recovery event:
  • runs 5.30pm-8.30pm
  • at Physio Solutions, 3rd floor 31 Outram St, West Perth
  • Plenty of saturday street parking.

In case it hasn't been clear, Half-Painathletes who finished earlier in the day are DEFINITELY invited to return for a massage, a bite to eat and to see if they cracked any challenge records.

One week to go!

Remember to start hydrating now with a week out.  Drinking 5 litres the night before the event will only make for an interuppted and uncomfortable day.

See those of you who attend at the briefing!
