The Hot Tips for Painathlon PDF Print E-mail
Parrotte climbs Mount StA few of you have asked for some tips and pointers for the event so here are my top 10 to assist you through the day plus some extras for Team and Half

Solo Painathlon
1) Remember to bring 2 extra filled water bottles to the start for collection at 'The Truth' refuelling stop
2) Save transition time over the first few challenges by cycling with running shoes on
3) Secure your race-card to your body somehow, it sucks to run 5km to the punch and realise you left it in your bag!
4) Hit google maps and see if you can navigate between the 10 challenges without the directions
5) Find someone your pace and stick with them if possible, it'll save a stack of time on the long cycle legs.
6) If you're lost or in trouble, give the support cars a call, that's what they're there for
7) Bananas are solid gold
8) Sounds obvious but prepare yourself and get an early night before (something i've abjectly failed to do so far as organiser!!)
9) Get out to the Zig Zag once and practice the shortcuts down
10) Be prepared to head direct for Jacobs around 4pm if you're still got challenges to go.  Everyone should be finished or on the ladder by 5pm regardless of speed.

Team Painathlon
1) Decide before hand who is going to run which challenges.
2) Plan at least one 'team' run.  You could alternate laps at Jacobs as long as the 10 get done.

Half Painathlon
1) Do this saturdays familiariser if you're new to Painathlon and haven't done one yet.

  • 7am at City Beach carpark north of surf club.
2) Don't think you can do this without taking on some food, the Half is still a long distance (46km total including 22km of running)
3) Even though you'll finish around lunch, come back at 5.30pm for a free recovery party massage at Physio Solutions, 3rd floor 31 Outram St, West Perth
